We have forged a link with Redrow who are building homes in Hackbridge and this is what they have to say:
'Millfields is a new community of homes currently being created by Redrow on Mill Green Road in Hackbridge. The new properties are set in a peaceful location on a site which boasts a rich industrial heritage - formerly home to a peppermint and lavender distillery and parchment works. Located adjacent to a nature reserve bordering the banks of the River Wandle which runs through the development, Millfields offers a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the capital city, yet is just a few minutes' walk from the station and local amenities.
Earlier this year Redrow commmissioned a report 'Creating Britain's New Communities' to look at the essence of community life today and in the future. The report concluded that the creation of communities rests on four core concepts: providing a safe and secure environment; enabling access to information and education; providing surroundings and a local environment which can be enjoyed; ensuring the health and well-being of residents.
Key features that Redrow seeks to include in their developments are good access to key local amenities - the ability to walk to schools, shops and social meeting places. Open spaces, including recreation grounds and parks, are also crutial and there is an increased awareness of the need to be fit and active to safeguard both future physical and mental health'.
Some of our children visited the Millfields site in November and were given a guided tour of how homes are built. They saw a model of the development and had an interesting question and answer session which was much enjoyed with the provision of squash and biscuits! We will be visiting the site again in April as our school has been invited to bury a time capsule.
